StepStone Group Names Weichou Su as a Managing Director

StepStone Group LLC named Weichou Su a managing director in the firm’s new Beijing, China office, which officially opened on Sept. 14. Su will focus on investment activities in China and throughout Asia. Su previously served as a managing director of Hina Group.

StepStone Group LLC today announced that Mr. Weichou Su has joined the firm as Managing Director in the firm’s new Beijing, China office, which officially opened on September 14, 2010. Mr. Su will focus on the firm’s investment activities in China and throughout Asia.

StepStone has had a presence in China for several years, and the new office solidifies the firm’s commitment to the region and its belief in the global investment opportunities that exist there. StepStone Group works with institutional investors to build portfolios that include private equity fund investments, co-investments and secondary investments.

Prior to joining StepStone, Mr. Su was a Managing Director of the Hina Group, an investment banking and private equity firm with a focus on Greater China. At Hina, Mr. Su was head of the technology team and led the company’s M&A advisory practice where he successfully completed many landmark transactions, including the $730 million AsiaInfo-Linkage deal, the largest technology M&A in China. In that role, he also helped companies identify the optimal partner among the top tier Greater China private equity funds.

Before joining the Hina Group, Mr. Su held a number of operational and investment roles as a senior executive with Asia responsibilities with leading telecom and technology companies. They include Level3 Communications, GRIC, and Reach. Mr. Su was also Managing Director and President of the United States Information Technology Office in China where he served as an industry leader to promote trade and investment in the technology sector.

Mr. Su holds an MBA from the joint program of the Kellogg School of Management and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He also has an MA in International Political Economy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
