SVP Global adds Barreiro to advisory council

Investment firm Strategic Value Partners has named José Barreiro to its advisory council. Previously, Barreiro worked at BBVA where he held various executive positions including global head of corporate and investment banking.

Greenwich, CT and London, November 25, 2014 – Strategic Value Partners, LLC (“SVP Global”), a leading global investment firm focused on distressed and deep value opportunities, today announced the appointment of José Barreiro, previously of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (“BBVA”), to its advisory council.

Mr. Barreiro has more than 30 years of experience in the banking sector. He is one of Europe’s most experienced bankers, having held a number of executive positions at BBVA from 1998 to 2012, including Global Head of Corporate and Investment Banking from 2005. He was also a member of BBVA’s Executive Committee at Group level from 2005 onwards and most recently a Senior Advisor to the bank. Prior to BBVA, Mr. Barreiro held senior positions at a number of financial organisations, including Banco Santander, Bankers Trust Company and Chase Manhattan Bank. In addition to non for profit board roles, he was, until recently, Deputy Chairman of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles, the operator of all stock markets and financial systems in Spain.

Mr. Barreiro becomes the fifth member of SVP Global’s Advisory Council, joining Sir David Cooksey, Professor Dr. Bernd Fahrholz, Hideto Ozaki and Jeffrey M. Peek. These members are all current or former senior executives of prominent firms and regulatory bodies in both the financial sector and other industries. Their experience and relationships are critical pillars to SVP Global’s strategy of identifying and creating attractive investment opportunities as well as providing guidance to SVP Global’s management team.
