Music Site Turntable.Fm has raised $7.5 million and is adding Union Square Ventures’ Fred Wilson to its board. Union Square Ventures led the round in Turntable, which was widely rumored earlier. Other investors include First Round Capital, Polaris, Lowercase Capital, Benchmark, and angels including Troy Carter, Tim Kendall, Guy Oseary and Vivi Nevo.
Today is a big day for us because I can finally share some exciting news.
The last 3 months have been incredible. We’ve grown to over 600,000 people, sharing, talking and discovering new music with each other. Because of this growth and because we have so much to do and explore in creating the web’s first truly social music experience, we have raised 7 million dollars.
The round was led by Union Square Ventures and Fred Wilson will be joining our board. Our other investors include First Round Capital, Polaris, Lowercase Capital, and Benchmark. In addition, a small group of industry angels also participated, including Troy Carter, Tim Kendall, Guy Oseary, Vivi Nevo and a few others that we can’t name just yet.
The other big news is we officially released our iPhone app so now people can listen and DJ on turntable anywhere. This has been our most requested feature and it’s just the beginning for mobile. It’s our first version and still in beta, so please let us know if you find issues (e-mail help [at] turntable.fm)
Finally, our friends of friends network during the beta test grew to 60 million people. That’s pretty close to 10% of Facebook. Today we’ve dropped the requirement that you need a friend to get access to our beta. Our beta is now open to anyone in the United States. We haven’t forgotten about everyone else outside of the U.S. and are still working hard to open up as quickly as we can.
So come join us and play some music with us. You can usually find me bobbing my head in DJ Wooooo’s rooms or relaxing in the Indie/Chill Acoustic room.
