Nuventix, the Texas-based maker of LED cooling technology for efficient lighting displays, revealed that GE Energy Financial Services and The Bergquist Company joined existing investors Braemar Energy Ventures, CenterPoint Ventures, InterWest Partners and Rho Ventures to provide the company with a $10 million investment. Specifics on the investment were not publicized.
Varolii Corp., the interactive messaging company, has raised $8 million from investors including BlueRun Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Institutional Venture Partners and InterWest Partners. The company also announced that Seattle veteran software executives, Lee Roberts and William Bryant, are joining its board of directors.
Innovalight has been acquired by DuPont’s electronics and communications unit, according to a statement announced by the companies. Innovalight builds low-cost solar modules. Its backers include ARCH Venture Partners, Apax Partners, Sevin Rosen, Silicon Valley Bank and Convexa Capital Ventures.
Bigshoebazaar, the South Asian wholesaler of retail goods, received a Rs 40 crore investment from Catamaran Ventures and Nexus Venture Partners in its second round of funding. Specifics of the transaction were not publicized.
UBS has named Barclays veteran Michael Konigsberg its head of leveraged finance. Konigsberg also spend 23 years at Lehman Bros. He will report to Brendan Connolly, global leveraged finance head with UBS.
Petmate, the maker of pet products including Bamboo, Booda, Dogzilla, Fat Cat and LeBistro, will acquire Kennel-Aire, a maker of plastic carriers. It’s the second deal for Petmate since Wind Point Partners invested in the company earlier this year. Paul Peterson, a WPP principal, worked on the transaction from the private equity firm.
It would have rocked the basketball world were the phrase even uttered in the late 80s: Magic Johnson is heading to Detroit. But the Hall of Fame NBA star and entrepreneur isn’t on the hardwood anymore, he’s joining Detroit Venture Partners, where he will work alongside Josh Linkner, Founder & Chairman of ePrize; Dan Gilbert, Founder & Chairman of Quicken Loans and Majority Owner of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers; and Brian Hermelin, Founder & Chairman of the private equity firm Rockbridge Growth Equity.
Acquia, the Massachusetts-based social publishing system, closed a $15 million Series D investment round from Tenaya Capital, Northbridge Venture Partners and Sigma Partners. Brian Paul, Managing Partner of Tenaya Capital, will join Acquia's board of directors. Other specifics of the transaction were not publicized.
Colorado-based mobile video communications company Tango picked up a $42 million round led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and including Len Blavatnik and Alex Zubillaga. The company also revealed it would launch a free video calling service for PCs.
Private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson will acquire financial software company Strata Decision Technology. Terms of the private investment, which was made by VSS Structured Capital Fund II, were not disclosed. SDT was advised by Berkery, Noyes, & Co., the New York-based investment banking firm.
