I was in Chicago Friday to moderate a discussion on private equity investment in the travel and tourism sector. Lots of talk about corporate governance, with a particular focus on corporate social responsibility.
The event was unfortunately off-the-record, so I can’t share the particulars. But I can at least provide some data from Daddy Thomson, in regards to PE-backed acquisitions of travel services, hotel and lodging companies: Travel.xls.
Be careful of reading too much into the aggregate dollar amount of 2007 investment, which is twice what was invested in all of 2006. It’s accurate, but the increase is entirely attributed to Blackstone’s buyout of Hilton Hotels. For example, the actual number of deals has declined…Â
