With all the news on Sequoia’s hedge fund and speculation that it will be moving to an asset manager investment model, I thought it would be a good time to see what the firm has been investing in.
The firm cut checks to 31 companies so far this year, passing out more than $180 million in financing, according to data from Thomson-Reuters.

The one thing that jumps out at me is how non-tech the firm’s foreign investments seem to be. The firm has invested in a Chinese TV talk show producer, a Chinese outdoor advertising agency and a civil construction service in India.
I’ve heard that this is the way VCs are investing in those developing markets these days, but seeing these examples really drove it home.
