Wells Fargo Adds New Head of West Coast Tech M&A

NEW YORK, May 4 (Reuters) – Wells Fargo Securities, part of Wells Fargo & Co., said on Wednesday it has hired John Jinishian to head up its West Coast technology mergers and acquisitions group.

Wells Fargo has been on a hiring spree lately; earlier this week Reuters reported JPMorgan’s Mark Solomons and Akhil Ahuja joined the bank’s tech banking team.

Jinishian, who joins Wells Fargo’s growing investment banking group, was previously at Cantor Fitzgerald, where he served as co-head of technology investment banking.

Prior to that role, Jinishian was global head of technology M&A at Citigroup Inc., where he worked for 14 years.

Based in San Francisco, Jinishian will report to John Laughlin, head of M&A and work closely with Gerry Walters, who joined Wells Fargo Securities in 2010 to head up the West Coast technology investment banking team.

Akhil Ahuja will also join the group from JPMorgan Chase & Co. where he was previously covering hardware companies, as first reported by Reuters this week. He will report to Walters.

At least a dozen new hires have been announced in recent months by banks showing increased appetite in expanding their technology investment banking teams.

Wells Fargo co-heads of investment banking and capital markets, Jonathan Weiss and Robert Engel said the new hire is “invaluable” as the bank continues to build the Wells Fargo investment banking platform.
