Venture-backed IPO activity gathered momentum in the third quarter with 26 deals raising $2.7 billion, according to a report by peHUB publisher Thomson Reuters and the National Venture Capital Association. IPOs from FireEye and Rocket Fuel debuted to, well, a combination of fire and fuel on Friday, finishing their first day of trading with 80% and 89.7% share price rises, respectively.
Mobile ad company MoPub said it has agreed to be acquired by Twitter. No financial details were provided. MoPub raised a $12 million Series B round from investors including Jafco Ventures, Accel Partners and Harrison Metal Capita in September 2012.
Bessemer Venture Partners said it promoted Peter Lee to vice president from senior associate. Lee will work with the firm's investing partners to identify entrepreneurial opportunities in cloud computing, Internet and mobile. He is based in the Menlo Park office and joined the firm in 2011.
And now for the big news of the day. Let's start with this: Tesla's new Model S outsells models from other luxury brands in California during the first half of the year, including Porsche, Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover.
RingCentral, Inc. said it filed for an IPO. The company's S-1 registration statement says the number of shares to be offered and their price range have yet to be released publicly. Its backers include Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures, Scale Venture Partners, Cisco Systems, DAG Ventures and Hermes Growth Partners.
